Hsinchu City (新竹市) Hsinchu Cheng Huang Temple (City God Temple) (城隍廟) Municipal Relic Building, together with Zhulian Temple, Chang Ho Temple, are the three main and largest temples in Hsinchu. It is a large-scale building, with the main building consisting of three separate buildings, pillars carved with dragons, stone lions, and above the main door a bagua was designed by a famous mason of that time. The entrance plate, which was inscribed “Protect Kinmen,” was given by the Qing Emperor Guan Xu. It houses the oldest Cheng Huang idol with the highest rank in Taiwan. Putian Temple (普天宮) Putian Temple is located on Gu Qi Fong which is home to a cluster of temples. It has a well-known scenic view, which makes it one of the 8 must-see scenic points in Hsinchu. The most famous landmark is the 120-meter high statue of Guangong deity on top of the mountain. The temple mainly caters to the Jade Emperor and the Guangong god. The interior of the temple is also a religious history exhibit which includes the Guangong Historical Museum and a Japanese / Chinese antique and furniture museum. Hsinchu Station-Hsinchu Railway Station (新竹護城河) Hsinchu’s century-old station was built in 1913 by the Japanese architect Matsugasaki Tsumunaga (松ケ崎萬長). The design is loosely based on Western architecture, with German Gothic architectural elements, incorporating some Baroque styles. It was built in the classic railroad construction style in contrast with many of the government buildings built during the same period. Peaks Mountain Park (十八尖山18) 18 Peaks Mountain road was opened up in 1927. The winding, cresent-shaped road on 18 Peaks Moutain Park is about 7 to 8 kilometers long and wraps around the south-eastern side of Hsinchu. 18 Peaks Mountain has literally 18 shallow peaks, and fragrant flowering plants line the paths where visitors go to relax or exercise. Visitors can enjoy the many gazebos built along the way like the elegantly designed, hexagon-shaped, “Xinfu Pavilion (Pavilion of Happiness)” and the “Jieshou Pavilion (Pavilion of Longevity)” located at the highest point of the mountain. The mountain also boasts 33 stone statues of Guanyin (with 24 that are still visible), and is Taiwan's first forest park construction. The Flower Festival is held annually in March when flowers such as camellias, azaleas, apricot, peach and osmanthus fowers come into full bloom. Green Grass (Ching-Tsao) Lake (青草湖) Green Grass (Ching-Tsao) Lake is a significant reservoir with a design that was adapted from the blueprints of the famous Hangzhou West Lake, by the Hsinchu City Government in 2007. A series of trails around the lake take visitors to scenic spots like the Lingyin Temple, Phoenix Bridge, Moon Bridge, Yu Fei Island and other attractions. Visitors can walk or cycle around the lake. Jincheng Lake Bird Watching Zone (金城湖賞鳥區) Jincheng Lake is a semi-natural lake that is formed as Keya River exits to the sea. With rich intertidal biological creatures, Jincheng Lake attracts birds that come foraging for food. Surrounding the area are lush forests, providing places for the birds to hide. The middle of the river has two sandbars which have become a center for bird habitation. It is Gangnan’s best spot for bird watching. Location: Turn right at Haibu Rd., towards Jingcheng Bridge |
Xiangshan Wetland (香山濕地) Xiangshan Wetland has a rich ecosystem. It is famous for Taiwan monk crabs, soldier crabs, and fiddler crabs. The mudflats here are prosperous. The International Bird Association has marked this area as a habitat conservation of wild birds. Xiangshan has also the largest oyster farm in northern Taiwan. It is the northernmost boundary for oyster farming in Taiwan. The vast expanse of the wetlands makes it a good place for windmill power. World Expo Taiwan Pavilion – Creative Industrial Park (新竹世博館) The World Expo Taiwan Pavilion in Hsinchu was displayed at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The main concepts of the building are,"Mountain , Water and Heart Lantern.” It has the spirit of the ancient folk custom of sending off sky lanterns while praying and having good wishes to purify the soul. An LED peripheral "Heart of Taiwan" can be seen in the form of a glass coated sphere with a light-upheart on the outside of the building. With a 12 meter diameter, 720 ° spherical screen, surrounding sound and 4D special effects, "Heart of Taiwan" displays dynamic performances of alternating images between real and unreal, presenting millions of butterflies fluttering and a variety of creative features of Taiwan. The Creative Industrial Park not only showcases the World Expo Taiwan Pavilion’s Heart Lantern, but also brings together science, technology and culture, all in a diverse and creative space. Using the concept of “Taiwan microcosm (mini Taiwan)” to demonstrate Taiwanese local culture and creative literature, so you will appreciate Taiwan’s character just when arriving to Hsinchu. Hsinchu County (新竹縣) XinYueh Sand Bay (新月沙灘) XinYueh Sand Bay is located in a remote area. It is a secret territory in BaZiKu. The coastal line extends more than 3000 meters with soft and clean sand. Twin Well (雙胞胎井) In Baoshan Village, there are just over sixty families, but more than 20 pairs of twins. According to seniors, it is related to the old well which is located in the entrance to the village on Baoshan road. The villagers are drinking well which has major renovation after the opening. North Point drawbridge (北角吊橋) The North Point drawbridge, the second longest drawbridge in Taiwan, across the Oil Luo brook, its single-span drawbridge is 220 meters long, second only to Nantou County Pinglin drawbridge 350 meters long. After building drawbridge, it is so convenient that only needs 5 minutes walking to reach the other side, now it becomes an important bridge leading to the horse tire tribe. Moreover, it may also be walking fitness and becomes the new landmark in Chienshih Township. Because of the Red Bridge door frame and steel cable suspension system, it is also another view spot for tourists to stay and take photographs. Lianhua Temple (蓮華寺) The Lianhua Temple, mainly worships the Guanyin, is also known as the Guanyin Temple. Since the Lianhua Temple has a history of 130 years. After renovation, but it still retains the traditional style, it’s the only unconverted old temple in the Zhubei region. The carvings have the artistic value with a deep cultural and historical significance, so that it was announced as the County heritage site in 2006. Jinping Church (錦屏教會) At present, the Jinping Presbyterian Church parish in Chienshih Township only has 15 families. They had spent eleven years, rely on determination, to build up a beautiful church in the most religious character in Chienshih Township. Even more, in order to complete the overall structure of the Church, there were no water, no electricity, no windows and no lights for 7 years and only relying on the dedication of other churches during the period of the process. Many tourists are very impressive for this beautiful church which stand next to the Na Luo Creek with the larger pebbles piled wall in Jinping tribe. Strikes The Tea (客家擂茶) here is a habit of drinking Lei Tea where there are Hakka people. On the old street of Peipu, there are a good many stores selling Lei Tea. You can process it by yourself, or just buy the packaged Lei Tea powder and enjoy it at home. When you come to Peipu, do not forget to have a cup of Lei Tea. |
Nanpu irrigation (南埔百年水庫) The Jiang Shao built up the hundred Years irrigation and the Nanpu irrigation to drill straight through 21 tunnels drawing into the paddy fields of 60 hectares in Nanpu. Due to the block of the irrigation, the Council of Agriculture, Water Conservation Bureau granted 42 million dollars to rebuild the Nanpu Canal as a demonstration area in rural regeneration. Then, the citizens decided to stop farming for one year to fix the irrigation, and especially there were four elderly who average 70-year-old-""Xiao, Yan Fang"", ""Zhou, Yuan Rui"", ""Li, Mu Hua"" and ""Zhuang, Qian Da""- used their working experiences of mining to help to clean the silt deposition of many years and made the irrigation back to the clean as before. This event became the best example as the rebirth of the rural area. Neiwan (內灣) Neiwan is located in Henshan town in Hsinchu. Visitors enjoy riding on Neiwan train and walking on the Neiwan suspension bridge when they come to this quiet old town. Taipei City (台北市) Taiwan is a tropical island sitting across Taiwan Strait from China. Due to its geographical location, the island is a key international trade stop in the Pacific Rim. Taipei has been the de facto capital. It is situated by the Danshui River, at the northern tip of the country, about 70 km northeast of Hsinchu. Public transportation, high speed rail and greyhound are available and very convenient for first time visitors. Most of Taiwanese resident under age of 40s, understand English and some speak fluently. Local people are shy yet friendly. Please do not hesitate to ask for help when you need assistance. |
